About Soil Haven
Soil Haven is a tested guide to leaf blowers and outdoor power equipment — gas, cordless, and backpack models measured for real airflow, runtime, and noise, so yard cleanup gets easier, not more confusing.
Why we exist
A spec sheet says 450 CFM — the real number depends on what you actually measure.
Soil Haven is a working record of what leaf blowers and yard equipment actually deliver: the runtime a battery blower gets under real leaf load, the noise level a gas backpack blower hits at the property line, and the CFM a corded or cordless model puts out once it’s not a lab number anymore.
Most equipment reviews repeat the manufacturer’s spec sheet as fact. Ours starts from what we’ve run — clearing real leaf piles, timing real battery drain, comparing real noise against a decibel meter. If we recommend a blower or vacuum, we’ve run it or researched it well past the marketing page.
The goal is simple: help you buy the right equipment once, and get the yard cleared faster because of it.

Our story
Soil Haven started with one underpowered blower and a yard full of oak leaves.
I’m Nathan Brooks. I live in Raleigh, North Carolina, where fall means a yard buried in oak and pine, and the wrong blower turns a weekend job into an all-day one. My own equipment search started the way most do: a spec sheet full of CFM and MPH numbers I didn’t know how to compare, and a first blower that couldn’t move wet leaves at all.
I learned the hard way that manufacturer numbers rarely translate to a real yard: a gas model rated for high CFM that was miserable to run for more than ten minutes, a cordless blower whose runtime dropped hard under real leaf volume, a vacuum attachment that clogged on anything but dry, thin leaves. So I started keeping notes — what actually cleared a yard, what I’d skip, and the exact specs that mattered versus the ones that didn’t. Those notes became Soil Haven.
Today it’s a growing library of tested leaf blower, vacuum, and backpack equipment guidance, written for people who want their yard cleared — not a spec sheet to decode.

ExploreHow we earn your trust
Reviews you can shop with confidence.
Yard equipment is a real purchase, and a bad spec-sheet recommendation means redoing the shopping next fall. That’s why everything here is held to the same standard.
We run it before we recommend it
Blowers and vacuums are tested clearing a real Raleigh yard across full leaf-fall conditions — not judged from a spec sheet alone.
We explain the “why”
CFM versus MPH, runtime under load, and noise at the property line — so you can compare any two models, not just the ones we’ve covered.
Sourced, specific claims
Reviews cite real measured numbers — tested airflow, battery runtime, decibel readings — not manufacturer copy repeated as fact.
Honest, independent, and current
We recommend what we’d buy for our own yard. When a link earns a commission it never changes the verdict, and we revisit our top picks as new models release.
